The cosmetology course is structured as follows: Initially, you’ll engage in 240 hours of preclinical instruction, covering key subjects like anatomy, dermatology, trichology, manicuring, and cosmetology-related chemistry. You’ll also explore topics such as electricity, light, infection control, safety procedures, Minnesota’s cosmetology regulations, student orientation, and basic service skills.
Moving forward, the core of the cosmetology curriculum involves 420 hours dedicated to applied sciences and practical skills. This encompasses a range of areas, including hair sculpture, design, color techniques, permanent waves, manicures, facials, make-up, eye lash extensions, as well as manicures, pedicures, and nail enhancements.
Throughout your journey, you’ll immerse yourself in a total of 1130 hours of carefully planned clinical instruction. This hands-on experience will refine your abilities in hair sculpture, design, color, permanent waves, manicures, facials, make-up, and nail enhancements.
Upon successfully completing this comprehensive training, you’ll meet the State of Minnesota’s requirements for coordinated theory and practical experience in the applied sciences of cosmetology. This achievement makes you eligible to take the Minnesota State Licensing Exam, a significant step toward becoming a licensed Cosmetologist.
An important note: Practical work with clients will commence after you’ve completed 120 preclinical hours.
